The Brief

Polyco is a registered NPO producer responsibility organisation (PRO) focused on growing the plastic recycling industry in South Africa. They partner with organisations to help get the message out there, organisations like Platinum Seed. 

The objective of our partnership with them on this project was to bring The Waste Picker Portal to life – a web-based application designed to capture and manage information about waste pickers who collect recyclable materials on the streets. Create a centralised database accessible through iPads, desktops and mobile devices for manual ‘on-the-go’ data capture, which will enable the Polyco team to efficiently manage and organise the information of waste pickers.

Functional specifications: 

Capture the info of a waste picker / Cell number / ID number / Name and surname

Capture a headshot (Taking a picture at the point of application through the iPad), as well as an image of their ID documentation.

The data is stored on dedicated servers, accessible by administrators who are able to view the information of each waste picker and search the database through the specific details.

With a controlled access setup, administrators have full but secure capabilities like downloading, saving and printing PDF files of waste pickers, as well as creating new profiles, teams and groups per region across the country.
